Allergy Safety
At St Helen Auckland Community Primary School, the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils is of paramount importance. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for children with food allergies and other medical conditions.
We work closely with parents, carers and healthcare professionals to ensure that pupils’ allergy needs are identified, understood and managed effectively. Individual healthcare plans are put in place where appropriate, and staff receive regular training in the recognition and management of allergic reactions, including the administration of emergency medication such as adrenaline auto-injectors.
To reduce risk, we:
- Maintain up-to-date records of pupils’ allergies and medical needs.
- Share relevant information with staff on a need-to-know basis.
- Work with our catering provider to support pupils with food allergies.
- Encourage good hygiene practices, including handwashing before and after eating.
- Promote awareness of allergies amongst pupils in an age-appropriate way.
- Follow clear procedures for responding to allergic reactions and medical emergencies.
Parents and carers are asked to inform the school of any allergies or changes to medical needs as soon as possible so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
